Here we are again. Welcome to a land I call, “DoubtMyself Land.” Have you ever been here? Be prepared because DoubtMyself Land has no Gas, Food or Lodging. What it can prepare you for is a way to leave you questioning and feeling yourself immobilized. Do you every feel that you are stuck and looking for direction? Look no further, to begin your journey I suggest you consult The Almanac of the Soul.
When pressure mounts in your life, we tend to resolve to use the same methods of trying to figure things out. We are adamant when we tell ourselves, “I will not let that happen again” or “Never again” or some other rationalization that calms our own monkey mind. When the proverbial button gets pushed- that says we DEFINITELY will try harder- failure at times, is just around the corner.
Do You Remember Jerry Reed?
Do you know where you are really going? Do you understand the decisions that you make? How do you know you have made the ‘right’ decisions?
Virgen de Guadalupe, Albuquerque, New Mexico, December 2013
The universe sends us some very interesting messages. Some are reminders of our past and others are reminders of what our future may bring. I have been very lucky to have been born into a indigenous faith healing tradition that blends my Native American, Tejano and Mexican roots. I recently have had the opportunity to examine up close and personal some of those distinct details, speaking with and learning several ‘blessings’ from an older Cubanoin his 90s who long practiced Macumba in Cuba before arriving on a raft in Miami in 1971. To that extent, I ended up visiting several Botanicas in Los Angeles, California walking away with some lessons learned on ‘old school’ ways of doing ceremony. The following week I was in Albuquerque, New Mexico attending a Barral Institute workshop on brain and spinal cord injuries. Of course this Curandero alsomet up with a group of very adept traditional healers in Curanderismo and was able to participate in a Virgen de Guadalupe celebration held in a traditional Temezcal– the type of sweat lodge that has been used by the Aztecs, Mayans, Toltecs and those that came before. What I learned was this:
There is an old Apache saying that says “Your Biology is your BIography,” or “Your Story is Your Body.” This applies to every form of medicine and healing on the planet. The trend toward Mindfulness and Mind Body approaches provide me with some hope that perhaps one day our health care system in the USA can be salvaged. In the meantime, approaches that are useful in helping navigate one’s healing process, ‘health and weatlh’ index and the prospects that you can find a better tomorrow is deeply ingrained within the Bazi SuanMing. You just have to know what you are looking for and where you are looking for it. Some people are searching for their path. Others have a monkey on their back. What happens when you have both?
Mesmerizing, isn’t it? Time to “Par-Tay.”
There are number of approaches to help understand where you find yourself in your own personal timeline. One basic approach to unlock your own personal Bazi is to understand the kinds of “Structures” within the Bazi chart. This post provides an overview of the myriad of potential structures one has associated with their own SuanMing.
Have you ever noticed that when people, friends, relatives or relative strangers have nothing to say the conversation always turns to the weather? “Some weather we are having,” or “It hasn’t gotten cold like this in years,” or “We have not seen this kind of weather in a long time.” Little did they know that they are talking about something that is essential in the Bazi SuanMing: the dynamic relationship between your birth date and the season you are born in. Understanding this dynamic on a deeper level helps you reduce your challenges, worries and helps magnifies potential outcomes in today’s world.
What, you have no worries?
If you have no worries, good for you. Why don’t you go back home, where you live in that van, down by the river and inspire yourself. For the rest of us, let’s see how the Bazi SuanMing works with our speculations on life and love.
There is a category of analysis in the Bazi SuanMIng known as the 12 Life Palaces or Ming Gong 命宮. The reading of the Life Palaces aka the Ming Gong is essential in Bazi SuanMing. The Ming Gong is similar in the sense of identification and naming of each “Palace” within the Zi Wei Do Shou (Purple Star Astrology) system. The majority of the literature translated into English with regards to Bazi Suan Ming resembles a biker bar brawl at a flea market. Things are strewn about. People’s feelings get hurt. Confusion runs amok. At the end of the day, you find your food cart tossed aside for cheap trinkets. Much of the literature compares too many different astrology systems (Western, Vedic and Purple Star to name a few), without going into detail how they are analogous or how they differ. The fact that the word Gong 宮 is used within Chinese metaphysics is a common thing. The analogy ends there. It’s sort of like saying people breathe to speak. It doesn’t mean we all speak the same language. In fact, we speak many languages in the world, (literally and metaphorically) -yet we need to breathe in order to speak. Bazi is like breathing. You use it every day. You just don’t know it until the attention is brought to you. When Bazi, Feng Shui and other lifestyle/metaphysical arts practitioners confuse the many systems of Chinese Metaphysics, I refer them to my favorite Feng Shui and Bazi consultant:
“Purple Star” You Say?
Do you want to know your Destiny? Do you want to know where your potential still has not been developed? Do you think you can do better than you are doing today? Using the Ming Gong 命宮 helps in review of your past and present and future relationships with the world.
Very few of us have the opportunity to witness brilliant people in their prime. (At least in the Bazi Suan Ming world of things.) I know I “have the luck” when events like this occur. I refer to these people as “mad scientist” brilliant. [read: in the loving and kind sort of way of the mad scientist] and I really do mean...brilliant. They are almost ‘monastic’ in their ways. They throw caution to the wind and let the dendrites in their brain form. They are in their craft and they build upon it. In public, most of the time, the Bazi master finds themselves surrounded by a crowd that resembles a paparazzi of sorts-which really defeats the purpose of this artist’s gift(s) to the world. I had the privilege to host Dr. Manfred Kubny, Ph.D., a bonafide Bazi Master. In most Bazi circles, many Asian Bazi masters consider him the #1 non-AsianBazi expert in the world. Dr. Kubny is a trained Sinlogist, and Chinese Classics linguist. He reads and translates Chinese classics. This is his “day job.” By night, he enters the Bazi. He is a professor at a university in Berlin, Germany. He trained for eight years under two Bazi masters in Taiwan in the 1970s and early 1980s. He visited Portland, Oregon recently to teach an advanced seminar on the Bazi SuanMing. My family and I had the opportunity to host him and I got to ‘soak up the Bazi SuanMing.’
Manfred Kubny, Bazi Expert
After Dr. Kubny’s second day here, all I could do was see Bazi table after Bazi table, chart after chart and look at the different classes of clash, combine and destroy elements in a birth chart. It was exhilarating and challenging all at the same time. This is what I learned:
