Manfred and Me

Very few of us have the opportunity to witness brilliant people in their prime.  (At least in the Bazi Suan Ming world of things.)  I know I “have the luck” when events like this occur.  I refer to these people as  “mad scientist”  brilliant. [read: in the loving and kind sort of way of the mad scientist] and I really do mean...brilliant. They are almost ‘monastic’ in their ways.  They throw caution to the wind and let the dendrites in their brain form.  They are in their craft and they build upon it. In public, most of the time, the Bazi master finds themselves surrounded by a crowd that resembles a paparazzi of sorts-which really defeats the purpose of this artist’s gift(s) to the world.  I had the privilege to host Dr. Manfred Kubny, Ph.D., a bonafide Bazi Master.  In most Bazi circles, many Asian Bazi masters consider him the #1 non-Asian Bazi expert in the world.  Dr. Kubny is a trained Sinlogist, and Chinese Classics linguist.  He reads and translates Chinese classics.  This is his “day job.” By night, he enters the Bazi. He is a professor at a university in Berlin, Germany.  He trained for eight years under two Bazi masters in Taiwan in the 1970s and early 1980s.  He visited Portland, Oregon recently to teach an advanced seminar on the Bazi SuanMing.   My family and I had the opportunity to host him and I got to ‘soak up the Bazi SuanMing.’

Manfred Kubny, Bazi Expert

After Dr. Kubny’s second day here, all I could do was see Bazi table after Bazi table, chart after chart and look at the different classes of clash, combine and destroy elements in a birth chart. It was exhilarating and challenging all at the same time.  This is what I learned:

Love in the Time of Cholera

When I first read El amor en los tiempos del cólera, Love in the Time of Cholera, in 1985, I could not help but be reminded that love, no matter how distant and or how remote it may seem, that somewhere, in the end, love will find a way.  To find out more about one of my favorite all time authors click here.

Healer, heal thyself

A funny thing happened to me last week. I threw out my back.  For those of you who know me, it is almost laughable that this traditional medicine man of Mexican-Apache descent from South Texas, who is a martial arts expert,  has a sudden onset of back pain for no apparent reason.  Initially the pain “on a one to ten scale” was a 12. There was no heavy lifting involved.  There was no yard work or mixed martial arts cage fighting involved.  There were no other activities that involved my back that would lead me to conclude of one factor that precipitated a back injury.  All I could think of at first was “why me?” and “why now?”  As I start this road to recovery, it reminds me once again that I am only human.  Which is too bad…unfortunately.

The emperor is not as forgiving…yes yes I know this.

Have you ever had pain you seem to revisit ever so often?  Have you ever had low back pain?  Do you want to know some helpful hints on your road to recovery?  If so, Please read on…

The Path to Healing

Through the last several weeks I have been doing some soul searching about life and thinking of my own mortality.  The passing of Dr. Pert gave me time for some reflection- (albiet abrupt reflection) – however it was also a renewed vigor on what it means to live.  The past holds many gifts- some negative, some positive and some in between. While living in the moment is the thing to do, knowing when those singular moments of clarity is upon us is something else.  Why settle for silver when you can attain gold?

BaZi Acupuncture

Wait..you are telling me this is possible?

The path to healing begins with you and your BaZi.  If you feel stuck, have decisions you need to make or really just want to generally Open the Door to Your Destiny, please read on.

My Karma Ran Over Your Dogma

When you look for any kind of resolution to a problem we attempt to do one of three things- (or for the creative ones in all of us, a combination of the following: [1] shoot it [2] eat it [3] attempt a 9 month to 15 year relationship of codependency with this particular person, thought pattern or situation.

BaZi GroundSpring

Yeah, can I get that with two sugars?

Have you ever felt torn by a decision you had to make?  Between a rock and a hard place? Or just looking for a rock to put yourself under?  Have you ever been afraid or at the very least wary of a decision to make?  Open Your Door to Your Destiny. Here is how you can do this.

Three White Horses

Are you having one of those weeks where it seems the saying “opinions are like…..” applies virtually everywhere?  Well, we can add whatever colorful expletive you care to add to the finish the phrase and it still comes down to an opinion.  The heart of the matter is that we do control our destiny, our fate- but that is only partially true.  We are born into this life and eventually we all pass away from this physical body.  So, in the meantime,  Are you tired of being tired?  Are you fed up with where you are?  Do you want to improve the quality of what you care for and not listen to any more excuses?

BaZi GroundSpring

Yes Mr. Bird, I am also “done waiting.”

The Cheese Stands Alone

What brings us closer to our own dream?  Religion? Great Sex? A really great piece of chocolate?  I have friends that would respond that there is no difference between any of the above.  All joking aside, some would say that life is a lot of work and hopefully filled with some “good luck.”  In the BaZi Suan Ming there are many opportunities to help your self during times of stress, crisis and out right loneliness. How do you know you are in your dream? What makes you think  things may not change- for better or worse?  We live in a world where (it turns out) Area 51 exists, people can “hack” into your car while you are driving, a low fat diet early in childhood will make you fat later in life and John Lennon may come back from the dead.

Really? Damn and all those back taxes.

In order to get the most use out of your BaZi chart there are certain things to understand how a 5,000 year old algorithm can change your life.  Let us start with “BaZi 101 Basics.”
